Subscription boxes boost Oklahoma businesses while helping local charities

1 in 5 children live in poverty, that’s a reality right here in the united states and shoes are one of the most visible signs of poverty. The simple gift of new shoes can be a new lease on life for a child in need. One group of Oklahoma businesses coming together to help keep kids in the game, and it’s this week’s the good stuff

Remember as a kid that first goal you scored, or hit you got, running around the bases and how good it felt? How much fun it was? Well without the right equipment, some kids never get that feeling, but you can help keep kids in the game, and all you have to do is buy one little box.

Libby Ross, who handles marketing for Sample Oklahoma, explains how these boxes are helping fund the dreams of kids right here in Oklahoma City.

“Behind Sample Oklahoma is a bunch of brilliant minds, lots of people that are involved in non-profits that are involved in small business and a lot of small business owners themselves.” Ross said.

The latest subscription box you can get delivered to your door is filled with all things Oklahoma and is turning into a huge success for spotlighting small businesses’ best products.

“Candles home décor and Oklahoma merchandise and Oklahoma branded merchandise.” Ross said.

100% of the net proceeds go to our charities in the form of a check which is a good thing, because there’s some big missions in Oklahoma.

Cleats for Kids is currently the charity involved with Sample Oklahoma, a mission explained by Taylor Self, the Communications Director with Cleats for Kids.

“Cleats for kids is an OKC nonprofit that equips kids through sports by providing sports shoes equipment and apparel free of charge,” said Self. “Since the start of Cleats for Kids we’ve equipped 150,000 kids and had 150,000 of those moments.”

But it takes a team to help get kids in the game, and that’s where you come in.

“The shoes really don’t walk out of the locker room on their own it really requires some staff time as well as some strategy about programs about how we can equip and empower the most kids possible.” Self said.

And with your help, Sample Oklahoma and cleats for kids hope to create experiences that change lives.

“Experience that kids have when they are joining a team when they are playing a sport on the field on the court it really is invaluable it helps them in their life it helps them learn life lessons, they get exposed to amazing role models.” Self said.
